Consultant Industrial and Digital Construction
Want to make your mark on our time? Join TNO as a Consultant in Industrial and Digital Construction in Delft!
About this position
The construction sector is in the midst of a transition from project-based work to a more standardized, product- and process-oriented way of building. At TNO, we develop the digital and technological building blocks that enable this transition. Think of simplifying and digitally interpreting regulations, developing product platforms for housing concepts, digital coordination of supply chains, machines and employees, process monitoring and optimization, robotization, and new business models. These developments are moving quickly due to the major societal challenges we face.
What will be your role?
As a consultant, you will work at the intersection of industrialization and digitalization. You are familiar with relevant developments in these domains and analyze bottlenecks in the industrialization of both the housing and infrastructure markets—on both the demand and supply sides. You translate these analyses into concrete solution directions and put the corresponding issues on the agenda with parties such as government bodies, market players and other stakeholders. In doing so, you help shape the strategic direction of this topic.
In this role, you work intensively with a variety of partners. You build sustainable client relationships and connect sector challenges with TNO expertise and technologies. You translate market questions into internal research projects, B2B assignments or proposals for innovation programs. You take ownership of one or more R&D themes, which you elaborate into clear project initiatives and realistic development pathways.
Your work ensures that new knowledge and digital solutions are truly adopted in practice. You help embed new ways of thinking and digital innovations in the real world, shaping the potential of conceptual and industrialized construction.
What we expect from you
You gain energy from working with fellow experts and clients on concrete solutions. You do this by connecting and energizing people. You speak both the language of technical professionals and that of clients, commissioners or collaboration partners.
- A completed Master’s degree (WO) in a relevant technical field such as mechanical engineering, building physics, civil engineering or a comparable discipline. An EngD or PhD in this area is a strong plus;
- 2–3 years of experience with conceptual and industrialized construction, and in-depth knowledge of current market developments, innovative construction concepts and relevant digitalization techniques;
- Enthusiasm, ownership, initiative and substantive leadership; you can formulate research questions, structure development paths and independently drive one or more R&D themes;
- A systems-thinking mindset, with the ability to understand the construction sector as an interconnected whole of technical, organizational, market and regulatory systems, and to develop solutions across these layers;
- A relevant professional network and a proactive attitude in engaging and identifying stakeholders and partners;
- Strong analytical skills to identify and structure complex issues, and translate them into actionable strategies, concrete interventions and well-defined projects;
- Affinity with the construction sector and digitalization to tackle societal challenges in this domain;
- A desire to shape the accompanying research for the knowledge agenda surrounding these innovations;
- An active and engaged role in team development;
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in Dutch and English (at least B1 level).
