Although the technology available for 3D printing has advanced significantly in recent years, TNO focuses on developing solutions that reach beyond the capabilities of commercially available printers. When speed or accuracy need to increase, or processes need to be improved in order to give the final product a desired functionality, TNO will assemble the right team to address the challenge.

Broad-scale expertise

Successful Additive Manufacturing of food and pharmaceuticals requires far more than just technological and equipment expertise. That’s why, in addition to equipment design and engineering, system engineering and control/software engineering, TNO also focuses on process engineering and business consultancy. By truly understanding your products, the effect of the printing process on various materials, and the specific needs of your target audience, we can design a holistic solution that is tailored to your specific needs and objectives.

In our two state-of-the-art Additive Manufacturing labs, TNO develops and experiments with setups to address the various 3D printing challenges in food and pharma.

TNO multi nozzle extrusion set-up

State-of-the-art extrusion printing

TNO has developed a set-up for high-force and high-speed extrusion printing that exceeds commercially available limits. Our multi-nozzle printhead platform allows printing with multiple materials simultaneously. And our experimental printhead platform explores the potential of novel extrusion concepts for continuous and large-scale production. No matter what your printing ambitions, TNO has the equipment you need to experiment, and to design a system for them.

Expert-level powderbed printing

Our flexible powderbed platform is built to research and print a wide variety of liquid and powder classes. With automatic powder deposition and several different printheads for droplet generation, exploring the possibilities of food and pharma printing have never been more diverse. In addition, laser sintering capabilities are also available on these set-ups.
