What will be your role?
As a Research Manager in the Energy and Materials Transition unit, you lead a team of approximately 40 professionals based in Petten. Together, you work on impactful R&D projects in the field of solar energy and its integration into our living environment and the electricity grid. You ensure a positive and motivating work environment where all colleagues can showcase their talents. You also contribute to the strategy, steer propositions, and engage colleagues in this direction.
As part of the management team within the Energy & Materials Transition (EMT) unit, you help define the unit’s direction and objectives. You will mainly work from Petten, but you will also regularly visit locations in Eindhoven and Rijswijk to optimize collaboration with other TNO teams. By working closely with industry and academia, you ensure that our innovations align with societal needs. In addition, you connect your team with the rest of the unit and contribute to the further development of our goals.

You also ensure the high-tech infrastructure runs efficiently and carefully monitor project progress.
What else do you bring?
- A completed MSc or PhD in natural sciences or a related field.
- At least 7 years of experience leading teams and fostering collaboration in a complex high-tech R&D environment.
- Strong command of English and preferably Dutch as well (or a willingness to learn it quickly).

We offer a gross monthly salary between € 6,900 and € 8,700 (based on your knowledge and experience), 8% holiday pay, a 13th month bonus of 8.33% and a flex budget (5.58% + € 180). The selection process
Please apply before the 14th of June, 2026. The selection process comprises two interview rounds. The preliminary interview takes place on the 23rd of June, 2026. In a final meeting we will discuss the terms of employment and your tailored benefits package. We aim to finalize the entire process within four weeks.
The selection process may include an online assessment and a reference check.
A certificate of Conduct (VOG) is required before starting a new job at TNO.
