Business Analyst
Want to make your mark on our time? Come work as a Business Analyst at TNO in The Hague!
About this position
TNO is an independent research organization with over 5,700 employees working on innovations with societal impact — from AI that protects patient privacy to solutions for the energy transition. The internal service organization BIOS ensures that all scientists and researchers can do their work without disruption, providing the right workplaces, systems, and facilities.
As a Business Analyst, you are the financial sparring partner of BIOS. You manage the budgets and cost models of the Information Services (IS) and Corporate Real Estate & Facilities (CREF) departments and advise directors and managers on what these figures mean for their strategic direction. You work closely with sharp, critical stakeholders who have high expectations — exactly the environment where you can truly stand out as an advisor.
What will be your role?
You translate financial data into actionable insights. Based on the cost models you manage, IS and CREF can allocate and recharge costs to internal customers. But your added value goes beyond that: you identify what the numbers reveal about risks, opportunities, and trends, and help managers anticipate them in time. At a tactical level, you are the financial point of contact for Directors of Operations and unit controllers.
Concretely, this means:
- Preparing and monitoring the annual budget and multi-year investment plan for IS and CREF.
- Managing cost models for cost allocation and internal charging via SAP, in line with the NEN2699 classification framework.
- Advising IS and CREF directors and their management teams on financial risks, insights, and strategic decisions.
- Keeping the Product and Service Catalog (PDC) up to date: correct pricing, volumes, and customer data.
- Maintaining and further developing the Excel Power Query dashboard in the SharePoint environment.
- Delivering periodic financial reports, including risk analysis, and ensuring completeness.
What we expect from you
You are analytically strong and know how to turn analysis into impact: helping others make better decisions. You communicate clearly, also with colleagues who are not familiar with financial terminology, and you can hold your own in discussions with critical directors or highly educated scientists. Experience with pricing or sales — understanding the value of services and how to communicate this effectively — is a strong plus.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in business control, financial analysis, or a comparable advisory role.
- Demonstrable knowledge of ICT and/or facility management processes.
- Advanced Excel skills, including Power Query; experience with SAP and SharePoint.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in both Dutch and English.
- Preferred: experience with pricing, cost calculation, or internal charging in a service-oriented environment.
- Willingness to undergo a security screening (VGB-B) by the AIVD.
What you'll get in return
Challenging and varied work with a real impact. And plenty of opportunities as, at TNO, you are in charge of shaping your career. We offer a gross monthly salary between € 4,000 and € 6,000 (based on your knowledge and experience), 8% holiday pay, a 13th month bonus of 8.33% and a flex budget (5.58% + € 180). In addition, you will be given every opportunity to develop yourself.
TNO offers optional employee benefits, enabling you to tailor your benefits package to match your personal situation. You may also expect:
- An extremely professional, innovative working environment where colleagues are leading experts in their field.
- The opportunity to attend courses, workshops and conferences, and to receive training and coaching based on your needs.
- 33 days annual leave plus a flexible holiday that can be used on a cultural, religious, or otherwise important day of your choosing (on a full-time basis).
- An employer working towards a respectful, inclusive, and equitable work environment where every employee can flourish, with various initiatives such as Jong TNO, numerous expertise based guilds, Rainbow Community and Round Tables on diverse inclusion topics.
- We offer a comprehensive and flexible mobility plan that also includes full compensation for public transportation for commuting and business travel.
- Great social events with your team and other TNO colleagues. That’s how you will get to know a lot of people really quickly.
- Flexible working hours, the possibility to work parttime (32 or 36 hours) and the possibility of working from home.
- A good pension scheme.
