Data Analyst/Data Scientist - Strategic Supply Chains

Unraveling supply chains, exposing dependencies, strengthening Europe's strategic autonomy — this is your time to make a difference as a Data Analyst. Become a timemaker at TNO and take the first step, powered by data, in a career that truly matters.

About this position

As a Data Analyst – Strategic Supply Chains, you will join TNO Vector, the center for societal innovation and strategy, within the Business & Finance Models (BFM) department. TNO Vector brings together knowledge and skills to address structural challenges in the Netherlands and Europe. We do this by combining TNO's expertise in technology, innovation, and policy. We examine problems from multiple angles and apply solutions in practice.

The 35 consultants and researchers at BFM share a mission to transform European industry and drive sustainable growth through innovation. Companies, sectors, and governments must make strategic choices together. Our analyses support this process by providing economic and business insights, forming a solid foundation for policy and investment decisions. We translate technical possibilities into new collaboration models to realize the desired changes.

What will be your role?

As a Data Analyst/Data Scientist, you will work on mapping supply chains for raw materials and technologies, as well as analyzing production, import, and export figures. You will generate new insights and translate them into reports and advice. You will work on challenging projects in the fields of strategic autonomy, economic security, and security of supply for the Netherlands and Europe. You will ask the right questions about the Netherlands' dependency on supply chains and technology.

If you find that existing methods are insufficient to answer these questions, you will take the initiative to address this yourself:

  • You develop new research methods to translate quantitative model results into actionable insights
  • You proactively engage with colleagues, stakeholders, and clients to surface the problems you'll be working on and gather the knowledge needed to address them

What we expect from you

You are looking to take your first career step and bring a highly developed abstract and analytical thinking ability. You have a strong interest in generating insights from data and in the role of supply chains and technology in the Netherlands' strategic autonomy. You have an affinity for quantitative analysis. You can apply a broad range of methods to support clients, while also confidently taking the lead in innovating and introducing us to new models and technological possibilities (both current and future). You are always interested in new developments, which you will create and apply yourself. Above all, you are strongly motivated to make an impact together with others!

What else you bring:

  • A completed university degree in a STEM or social science field (e.g., Data Science, Mathematics, or Econometrics).
  • Interest in economic analysis; experience in this area is a plus.
  • Experience in data analysis, network analysis, building reproducible data pipelines, visualization, and modeling in Python and/or R.
  • Experience in Python with dashboarding, web scraping, machine learning, or natural language processing (e.g., Retrieval Augmented Generation, Hugging Face) is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Git (version control), or willingness to learn.
  • Organizational sensitivity, excellent communication and listening skills, including structured writing and presenting in English and Dutch (C1 level).

What you'll get in return

Challenging and varied work with a real impact. And plenty of opportunities as, at TNO, you are in charge of shaping your career. We offer a gross monthly salary between € 3400,- and € 4300,- (based on your knowledge and experience), 8% holiday pay, a 13th month bonus of 8.33% and a flex budget (5.58% + € 180). In addition, you will be given every opportunity to develop yourself.

Perhaps you would like to grow your career in the direction of commerce or consultancy? Or would you like to become a project manager? Immerse yourself in sustainable innovations? Or carve out a career as a technical expert?

TNO offers optional employee benefits, enabling you to tailor your benefits package to match your personal situation. You may also expect:

  • An extremely professional, innovative working environment where colleagues are leading experts in their field.
  • The opportunity to attend courses, workshops and conferences, and to receive training and coaching based on your needs.
  • 33 days annual leave plus a flexible holiday that can be used on a cultural, religious, or otherwise important day of your choosing (on a full-time basis).
