How does it work?

TNO’s commitment to knowledge transfer means that we do not compete in the market as an organization ourselves. Instead, we focus on making our innovations accessible to Dutch businesses, supporting the growth and competitiveness of the national economy. The IP section within Legal Compliance & IP department manages the protection and transfer of our intellectual property portfolio, ensuring that companies can confidently build on our research and bring new technologies to market.

We offer flexible technology transfer options tailored to the needs of different companies:

  • Licensing: companies can obtain exclusive or non-exclusive licenses to use TNO’s patented technologies, software, or know-how in their products or services.
  • Evaluation license/ option rights: when a business needs more time to assess a technology, TNO can provide a paid option that grants temporary license while the company evaluates its potential.
  • IP assignment: in specific cases where strategic control is essential, TNO may transfer ownership of certain IP rights.
  • Spin-offs and tech participations: for entrepreneurial ventures, TNO supports market uptake through licensing packages, equity participation, and the Tech Participation Program for innovative SME growth.

This structured approach allows us to tailor agreements to each partner and maximize the impact of TNO’s innovations.
