About this position

What will be your role?

As a Computer Vision Scientist within the Intelligent Imaging research group, you will contribute to a variety of projects, often carried out in a team setting. You will conduct research collaboratively and develop new knowledge and technologies. In addition, you will work on projects where our expertise is directly applied for clients in business, industry, and government.

The Intelligent Imaging expertise group is a young, passionate, creative, and committed team of professionals (55+ people) specializing in the development of groundbreaking applications in the field of computer vision. Our team members come from diverse backgrounds, ranging from physics to artificial intelligence. Intelligent Imaging is a young and growing department where, over the past years, we have built extensive expertise in AI and deep learning. In both small and large projects, you will collaborate with colleagues from other expertise groups, within and beyond the defense domain. We provide a strong onboarding program and actively look for where your talents can best contribute within the group.

At TNO, we work in a close-knit team of professionals within an open and informal culture, across various domains, contributing to a safer world. For an impression of the projects we work on, we invite you to visit our website (Intelligent Imaging | TNO).

What we expect from you

You are able to communicate clearly with colleagues and clients, are customer-oriented, and have the drive to work collaboratively toward results that are practical and applicable for our clients. You enjoy coaching and mentoring colleagues, helping them grow both personally and professionally. You fluently speak both the Dutch as well as the English language.

  • You have a completed academic degree (MSc or PhD) in Biomedical Engineering, Technical Medicine, Medical Imaging, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, or Artificial Intelligence, along with at least ten years of experience in research within the field of computer vision.
  • You are an especially strong fit for us if you have experience optimizing algorithms for real-time processing, knowledge of architectures and data pipelines, experience with embedded systems (edge computing), and/or experience with (electro-optical) camera systems.
  • You have demonstrable experience in algorithm development and deep learning.
  • In addition, you have experience with Python, MATLAB, and/or C++, or you are able to quickly master new programming languages.
  • You have a pragmatic mindset and are motivated to further develop yourself as a researcher.
  • Domain knowledge of the defense and robotics sector, along with a broad network and experience working with relevant stakeholders such as the police, defense organizations, DJI, or the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee (KMAR), is considered a strong plus.

What you'll get in return

Challenging and varied work with a real impact. And plenty of opportunities as, at TNO, you are in charge of shaping your career. We offer a gross monthly salary between € 5,900 and € 7,600 (based on your knowledge and experience), 8% holiday pay, a 13th month bonus of 8.33% and a flex budget (5.58% + € 180). In addition, you will be given every opportunity to develop yourself.
