As a Network Engineer, your challenge is to manage complex network environments that enable more than 4,500 TNO employees across 20 locations in the Netherlands to carry out their daily work and research activities. You have a strong eye for detail and security, and you are comfortable coordinating operational activities and changes.
What will be your role?
As a Network Engineer, you are responsible for ensuring the availability and continuity of the network infrastructure. Your responsibilities include:
- Ensuring optimal network performance and system security.
- Performing performance measurements and trend analyses, and implementing system improvements where necessary.
- Managing and administering infrastructure changes.
- Advising on the urgency, impact, and prioritization of proposed changes.
- Keeping up to date with the latest technologies and industry trends.
- Developing ideas to further enhance the quality and service level of the department.
- Maintaining operational relationships with software and hardware vendors.

The Team
As a Network Engineer, you will be part of the Infrastructure team. This team is responsible for the data centers, storage environments, networks, Linux and Windows servers, and the core client infrastructure. The team is also responsible for IaaS and PaaS cloud services and their integration with on-premises environments.
The team primarily operates from the Den Haag Nieuw Babylon office, with secondary activities across locations in the central and southern regions of the Netherlands. Hybrid working is standard practice.
What we expect from you
To be successful in this role, you recognize yourself in the following profile:
- Bachelor’s degree level of working and thinking (HBO level or equivalent).
- Preferably proven experience as a LAN/WAN Network Engineer in a relevant environment.
- Demonstrable experience with Cisco, Palo Alto, F5, and Infoblox technologies.
- Ability to optimize and automate management and operational tasks.
- Flexible, customer-focused, and service-oriented mindset.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Good command of both Dutch and English.
- Possession of a valid Category B driving license.

In addition to a gross monthly salary (full-time, 40 hours) between €3,450 and €5,250, depending on your knowledge and experience, you will receive a 13th month payment (8.33%) and a flexbudget (5.58% + €180). Including these additional benefits, your total monthly compensation can amount to approximately €4,000 to €6,000 gross per month. And of course you will receive 8% holiday allowance.

The selection process
