Reward and Job Evaluation Specialist

How do you contribute to TNO’s good employment practices? Become a Specialist in Job Evaluation and Compensation at TNO in The Hague!

About this position

Working at TNO means contributing to solutions for the major societal challenges of today and tomorrow. We do this together with more than 5,500 colleagues, each bringing their own area of expertise. Within TNO, we continuously work towards building a future-proof and transparent organization. A clear and carefully designed job architecture and a consistent compensation structure are essential to this. They form the foundation for fair and market-aligned remuneration, internal mobility, and trust within the organization. To ensure this sustainably, we are creating the new position of Specialist Job Evaluation and Compensation within the Labour Affairs department.

In this role, you will work as an expert and advisor, helping to further develop, strengthen, and future-proof TNO’s job architecture and compensation policies. You will operate at the intersection of policy and practice, making an important contribution to the quality, transparency, and consistency of our organization. In everything you do, you will contribute to our HR strategy, “Home for Talent.”

The team
Within HR, the Labour Affairs department plays an important role. The department is not only responsible for providing advice, but also for developing and implementing policies that have a direct impact on the organization and the people who work there. Labour Affairs consists of a collaborative and enthusiastic team of professionals. In addition to employment lawyers, the team includes specialists responsible for developing and maintaining employment conditions, providing related advice, and supporting the works council through its secretariat. The International Work Desk and the Health & Vitality department are also part of Labour Affairs.

What will be your role?

In this role, you will build and shape your own area of expertise within the Labour Affairs department. You will establish, design, and manage the dedicated service desk. You will develop clear frameworks and procedures for handling job changes and job re-evaluations. You will define how processes are organized, bring structure to the way of working, and ensure careful and consistent application in practice.

In addition, you will identify opportunities for improvement within the job architecture and compensation policies, translate these into concrete proposals and projects, and take ownership of their implementation. As a subject matter expert and guardian of the job architecture, you will safeguard its quality, coherence, and application throughout the organization. At the same time, you will maintain a strong awareness of market developments and identify when adjustments to our job evaluation and compensation policies may be required. You will act as an external antenna for developments within the field and translate these into actionable insights for the organization.

You will also serve as the key liaison with our external partner Korn Ferry and play a decisive role in assessing whether and when positions should be (re)evaluated.

More specifically, your responsibilities will include:

  • Establishing and managing the service desk for complex questions related to job evaluation and the job architecture.
  • Coordinating the maintenance, further development, and (re)writing of job profiles.
  • Acting as the subject matter expert and primary point of contact for, among others, HR Business Partners and (HR) Management, as well as the liaison with our external partner Korn Ferry.
  • Periodically benchmarking our compensation structure against the market using market data (including Korn Ferry data) and analyzing our market position.
  • Advising on labor market allowances, salary grading, and frameworks for job evaluation-related salary increases, including monitoring consistent application.
  • Advising on the optimal use of our compensation instruments.
  • Monitoring developments in pay transparency legislation and carefully handling employee requests regarding compensation information.
  • Conducting analyses of specific job groups and compensation components (such as bonuses/gratifications) and safeguarding internal consistency

What we expect from you

For this new position, we are looking for a subject matter expert with strong analytical skills who combines organizational awareness with the ability to influence and persuade.

We are looking for someone with:

  • Demonstrated experience as a compensation specialist or in a similar role.
  • Excellent writing skills, with the ability to document complex matters accurately and in a structured manner.
  • Experience with job evaluation and salary grading matters.
  • Knowledge of and experience with market benchmarking and compensation data comparisons (preferably using Korn Ferry / Hay methodologies).
  • Strong analytical skills; you are comfortable working with data, figures, and salary analyses.
  • Knowledge of compensation policies, labor market allowances, and relevant legislation and regulations (such as pay transparency requirements).
  • The ability to translate policy into practical application and to monitor whether agreements and policies are consistently followed.
  • A proactive and observant mindset: you identify trends, recognize risks, and provide well-substantiated recommendations.
  • Accuracy, independence, and a strong sense of integrity.
  • Strong communication and advisory skills.

As this is a newly created role, we are looking for someone who enjoys building something from the ground up, creating structure, taking ownership, and driving implementation through to execution.
