Over twelve weeks, multidisciplinary teams collaborated around shared challenges in sustainability, sovereignty, governance and value creation. At the Challenge Finale in June 2026, six propositions were presented to an expert jury and a broad audience of stakeholders.

All six propositions were positively assessed for their relevance, originality and potential contribution to Europe's future AI capabilities. Participating organisations are now exploring how these concepts can evolve further through pilots, collaboration, investment and coalition building.

The challenge culminated in a public finale where six multidisciplinary teams presented their concepts to an expert jury and a broad audience.

Explore the six propositions

The Futureproof AI Challenge resulted in six propositions addressing some of today's most pressing questions around sustainable, sovereign and trusted AI. The six propositions presented during the Challenge Finale were:

The Futureproof AI Open Innovation Method

Futureproof AI combines open innovation, multidisciplinary collaboration and knowledge integration to accelerate sustainable, sovereign and trusted AI. Organisations, researchers, policymakers and experts work together in a structured process that transforms shared challenges into validated propositions, pilots and future collaborations. The approach is designed to reduce uncertainty, accelerate learning and translate knowledge into practical action.

Participating Organisations

Futureproof AI brings together organisations from government, industry, academia and research. Together they contribute expertise, real-world challenges, research capabilities and implementation experience.

Next: building the Futureproof AI ecosystem

The Impact Acceleration Challenge marked the completion of the first phase and laid the foundation for the Futureproof AI ecosystem.

Participating organisations are now taking the next step by developing the six propositions further, launching pilots and exploring new opportunities for collaboration. Throughout the summer, teams will continue discussions around the propositions, with jury members and participants reconvening in September 2026 to explore potential pilots, coalitions, investments and new partnerships.

Together, we are building an ecosystem in which organisations collaborate to accelerate the development and adoption of sovereign, sustainable and trustworthy AI.
