Intersolar Europe 2026: TNO thematic sessions

During Intersolar, TNO organises thematic sessions on Solar Mobility, Circularity and Custom-made BIPV to accelerate innovation in the solar energy sector and strengthen the connection between research, industry and policy.

Startdatum:
-
Time:
11:00 (CET)
Location:
Messe München | Hall A3 – Stand 110 (A3.110)
Costs:
Free

As an independent research institute, TNO focuses on facilitating substantive exchange and collaboration. These sessions offer a platform where current challenges and opportunities in the sector are discussed, with the aim of contributing to a strong, sustainable and technologically independent European solar energy chain.

Programme TNO sessions

Architectual solar solutions

From Production to Inspiring Examples of Colored Building Integrated PhotoVoltaics.

  • Roland Valckenborg, project manager and scientist at TNO Solar Energy
  • Lourens van Dijk, founder of Soluxa
  • Paul de Jong, co-founder and CEO of Solinso

Building integrated PV products have been around now for 30 years with eye-catching projects and continuous innovation. The main challenge today is how to create BIPV products that meet (1) flexibility of design, (2) short delivery times and (3) affordable cost, all at the same time. TNO has the infrastructure and experience to be your partner in this innovation challenge.

The drive towards solar mobility

From onboard generation to solar charging ecosystems.

  • Lenneke Slooff-Hoek, programme manager at TNO and project lead of the European SolarMoves project on VIPV
  • Ruud Derks, co-founderand CSO of IM Efficiency
  • BonnaNewman, CEO of Lightyear
  • Robin Berg, founderand CEO of We Drive Solar

This session introduces solar mobility, highlighting Vehicle-Integrated Photovoltaics (VIPV) and PV-powered charging infrastructure as key solutions to challenges such as grid congestion and user convenience.

Following a brief overview by TNO, three industry speakers will present their companies, core activities, and the tangible benefits and impacts of their solutions, illustrated with real-world examples.

The panel discussion will then explore the strategic role of solar in mobility systems, comparing on-vehicle and infrastructure-based approaches, and examining their complementarity across vehicle segments. Key themes include value propositions such as cost savings, sustainability, and range extension; barriers to adoption; and system-level impacts on grid load, efficiency, and flexibility.

The session will also address scalability challenges, including manufacturing, integration, and supply chain constraints, offering a forward-looking perspective on accelerating solar mobility deployment.

Closing the solar loop

  • Büsra Kücük, Solar Energy Scientist at TNO
  • Ian Lin, co-founder and steward of Biosphere Solar B.V.
  • Jan Vesseur, Chair of SolarNL and circular PV entrepreneur

This session will explore the Dutch circularity ecosystem, with a focus on the design, reuse, recycling and waste streams of PV modules to close the Loop in the Solar. The session will begin with a brief overview by TNO, Biosphere, and SolarNL.

TNO will present key projects and findings regarding waste streams, reuse, design for recycling and recycling methods, followed by Biosphere speakers introducing their circular PV module design concepts and providing an industry perspective.

SolarNL will conclude by outlining its core activities and the structure of its circular ecosystem . Key elements of this session include the Dutch circular PV ecosystem, reuse, recycling and waste streams, PV module design for recycling, environmental and economic impact of circular approaches, scaling strategies for circular solutions within the PV sector
