TNO and VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland will further shape and expand their cooperation in the field of defense. A Memorandum of Understanding regarding this was signed recently by representatives of both organisations. Sauli Eloranta, VP Defence, and Ari Aalto, VP Safe and Connected Society, signed for VTT and for TNO Hendrik-Jan van Veen, managing-director and Louk Absil Programme Director Defence, Safety & Security.

Defense-relevant technologies

Tjarda Krabbendam, TNO’s Division Director Human & Organisational Effectiveness and VTT’s Ari Aalto, VP Safe and connected society will be leading the cooperation.

With the MoU, both parties express their intention to develop and execute joint defense and dual-use research projects in support of the Finnish and Dutch armed forces.

The projects currently being evaluated focus on concrete defense-relevant technologies such as drones and anti-drone solutions, but also on increasing societal resilience, an area in which Finland has extensive experience with its so-called ‘whole society approach’.

VTT and TNO have already conducted a joint test with drones at the OuluZone Drone Test Centre in Finland, which is not possible in the Netherlands due to regulations.
