RESEARCH AREA

A fundamental challenge in the construction industry is bridging the gap between design, realization, operate & maintain and deconstruction & reuse phases. The chair 'Construction Process Integration & ICT' addresses this challenge and focuses on more integrated decision making and more integrated ways of working and cooperating along these phases. It addresses the opportunities of increasingly advanced digital and information management solutions to support and boost more integrated practices (e.g., modular concepts, integrated project delivery, supply chain management).

The main questions that drive my research lie in the organizational and change management aspects of construction processes, such as ‘What are the organizational conditions for the successful use of digital technologies in construction?’, ‘What are the organizational effects of digital technologies?’, and ‘How can these changes be implemented successfully?’.

The development and application of advanced digital solutions (like digital twins, digital product platforms and artificial intelligence) is an important spearhead of the TNO roadmap ‘Buildings & Infrastructures’.

RECENT RESULTS

  • PDEng project ‘BIM maturity in the Dutch Construction Sector’. We developed a BIM maturity assessment model and assessment method and conducted several maturity assessments on sector, organization and project level.
  • PDEng project ‘Design and validation of BIM scenarios, incentives and protocol for construction logistics optimization’. We developed BIM scenario’s that facilitate construction logistics optimization and incentives to stimulate the application of these BIM scenario’s.
  • PDEng project ‘Data Quality Improvement; Procedure to improve data quality issues within and between sources’. We developed methods to improve the quality of asset data.
