RESEARCH AREA

Printed electronics is about making electronic devices using additive manufacturing technologies, often in combination with standard assembly processes. The technologies allow for devices that can be seamlessly integrated with their environment. Examples are body conformable health patches but also functionalized car interiors. Holst Centre has been successfully active in this field for many years. With the basic technologies maturing, there is a need to study more fundamental aspects of printed electronics. This for example concerns printed antenna’s, 3d printed electronics and biodegradable electronics. These more fundamental topics are being studied in the collaboration with the University of Gent.

RECENT RESULTS

  • A first research focus is on  structural electronics with an emphasis on enabling technologies for green and more sustainable electronics. A second research focus is on enabling skin-like electronic (very thin, very conformable) devices for future wearables.
