Business Developer green chemicals and fuels

Want to make your mark on our time? Become a business developer at TNO in Petten!

About this position

As a business developer, you work on developing and marketing new value propositions. With a broad range of technical disciplines, systemic knowledge, and experience from TNO, you support companies, industrial clusters, and institutions in transitioning from a fossil to a sustainable material and energy management. Your primary focus is on the conversion of biomass (and waste/residues) into chemicals and fuels within the context of a circular, biobased economy. For this purpose, we leverage our expertise in areas such as bio-refining and thermochemical conversions. In close collaboration with partners and colleagues, we provide advice, develop business cases, and create a portfolio to translate research and technology into practical applications for the broader Western European energy system. We engage in both business-to-business projects and collaborations with consortia, including cases where public-private partnerships are involved.

What will be your role?

You develop projects and programs focusing on the development of the biobased economy. The emphasis is on converting biomass into green chemicals and fuels. You collaborate with scientists and engineers to understand where advancements in research can be applied, collectively addressing challenges faced by the industry.

Additionally, you are involved in expanding TNO's industry and partner network, supporting management in developing and validating the portfolio of technological propositions. As a business developer, you operate in a broad field of process, chemical, and energy sciences, including biomass-related process and conversion technologies, techno-economic process simulation and modeling, system design and instrumentation, and catalysis.

What we expect from you

With your extensive industrial experience and corresponding network, you understand the value of new technological options and know how to address challenges related to the implementation of these technologies in a broad ecosystem. You thrive in a multidisciplinary, multinational, and gender-balanced team, demonstrating an open mindset, a willingness to learn from colleagues, and a commitment to knowledge sharing within the team. You can think from the perspective of customers, identifying the collective potential of technology. Your skills include strong negotiation, networking, and collaborative learning abilities. You possess critical thinking skills and the capacity to quickly grasp new technologies. Adapting swiftly to various situations is second nature to you in a dynamic environment.

What you bring to the table:

  • A university degree in process/chemical engineering or equivalent, complemented by business development experience;
  • A minimum of five years of experience in a business development role, with a track record in business-to-business project development, building public-private partnerships, and the ability to develop and sell new propositions and industry-firsts;
  • Experience across the entire business development process, from gathering initial market insights to closing deals;
  • Fluent in both English and Dutch; additional language skills (such as French, German, or Spanish) are a plus.

What you'll get in return

Challenging and varied work with a real impact. And plenty of opportunities as, at TNO, you are in charge of shaping your career. We offer a gross monthly salary between € 6.200,- and € 7.000,- (based on your knowledge and experience), 8% holiday pay, a 13th month bonus of 8.33% and a flex budget (5.58% + € 180). In addition, you will be given every opportunity to develop yourself.

TNO offers optional employee benefits, enabling you to tailor your benefits package to match your personal situation. You may also expect:
