Scientist Health Data Space Architectures | Leiden

Want to make your mark on our time? Come work as a Scientist Health Data Space Architectures at TNO in Leiden!

About this position

TNO is looking for a Scientist who will work on the architecture and development of the health data spaces. If your expertise lies in data architecture and software engineering, and you are keen to apply your skills towards making an impact in personal health, this opportunity is for you.

What will be your role?

In today's healthcare landscape, data is increasingly recognized as a valuable asset for improving health outcomes. However, effective data utilization hinges on secure reuse of data and analysis across organizations. Data reuse is a catalyst for innovation within and across sectors, leading to the development of new solutions. It transforms data into a strategic asset for companies, emphasizing the importance of maintaining control over it.

As a Scientist Health Data Space Architectures, your work will contribute significantly to the development of the 'health data spaces'. In this role, you will delve into this subject alongside TNO colleagues, businesses, and other organizations, navigating the opportunities it presents while addressing the questions it raises: Who controls the data? What analyses are permitted using the available data? What analyses are possible in a certain architecture? And how can data be reused without compromising the privacy of citizens?

This role places you at the leading edge of both technological and societal advancements, focusing on the secure and ethical (re)use of personal health data (both medical and self-collected). The nature of this work is fundamentally multidisciplinary, encouraging collaboration with a range of partners and consortia. This approach enables us to tackle issues from diverse perspectives.

As a Scientist Health Data Space Architectures, you'll explore current technologies and contribute to the resolution of various societal challenges. Your responsibilities include:

  • Designing and implementing software solutions for data management, extraction, and analysis within the health data spaces.
  • Developing solutions that ensure data privacy and security while enabling secure data reuse among stakeholders.
  • Utilizing AI, machine learning, and big data to derive valuable insights from health data.
  • Collaborating with industry partners, government agencies, and research institutions to establish technical standards and governance frameworks.
  • Writing research proposals and publications, and presenting your findings with the broader scientific community.

What we expect from you

You feel at home in multidisciplinary collaborations and teams with experts from different disciplines. You are interested in both the technical aspects and the implementation of innovations. You are proactive and curious about the latest scientific developments and how they can be applied to future solutions. You can communicate your research to a diverse audience. You easily connect with (potential) collaboration partners and enjoy developing ideas into project proposals together with others.

You have:

  • A strong background in software engineering and data architecture.
  • Affinity with scientific research and an interest in personal health.
  • Experience with data management and extraction tools, data lakes, data warehouses, and data modeling techniques.
  • Experience with API development and containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Experience with cloud data platforms (Azure, Google Cloud Platform) is a plus.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Excellent command of Dutch and English language.
  • The ability to work independently on multiple projects at the same time and manage your own workload effectively.
