Senior Business Developer Geo-energy (Well Technology) | Utrecht

Over the past decades, TNO has established and maintained an internationally leading position in the geo-energy domain. The subsurface plays a crucial role in the energy transition for energy production and storage (heat, hydrogen, CO2, compressed air, natural gas), and responsible resource extraction. Other significant themes include groundwater protection, land subsidence, induced seismicity, and system integration. TNO has built a strong, internationally recognized knowledge base in these areas. Our ambition is to accelerate the energy transition nationally and internationally by utilizing the subsurface as a source and buffer for sustainable heat, CO2, and H2. Within these topics, well technology is a cross-cutting theme enabling access to the subsurface as well as monitoring and optimization options. TNO has access to a unique facility (Rijswijk Centre for Sustainable Geo-energy, RCSG) where industrial-scale well technologies are developed and tested (from ground energy to ultra-deep geothermal). RCSG is an open innovation center where TNO conducts research in collaboration with dozens of companies. Research is conducted on novel drilling concepts, well integrity, heat networks, CO2- and hydrogen transport and storage. TNO collaborates with government and industry partners to develop the necessary knowledge and crucial well technology solutions to accelerate the energy transition and realize safe and sustainable energy production.

As a senior business developer, you will spearhead the development of innovation projects, R&D programs and consortia in well technology. Your focus areas will include geothermal energy (shallow and deep), large-scale underground hydrogen and CO2 storage, heat storage, CO2 storage, and the integration of subsurface solutions into the energy system. This involves the development of new drilling techniques, well concepts, circular materials, well integrity solutions, sealing, monitoring systems and operational improvements. In addition to technological innovations, integrating these applications into the energy system and the built environment is crucial.

You will play a pivotal role in expanding TNO's network and establishing key partnerships to drive forward our mission. Collaboration with cross-functional teams and leveraging TNO's technical expertise will be essential to your success. You will maintain and extend an active network including companies, R&D organizations and various disciplines and teams within TNO to setup multi-disciplinary development projects. Merging of TNO’s broad expertise and excellent capabilities with customer needs and relevant funding opportunities to foster TNO’s business and the growth of RCSG will be a key element of your work. You will support and collaborate with your colleagues in business development, the RCSG team, and scientists in day-to-day operations.

We are seeking a visionary business developer with a background in engineering, mining, or geosciences. You should have a proven track record in strategic commercial roles, with a knack for developing innovative value propositions. Experience in public-private partnerships and a robust international network within the geo-energy sector are highly desirable. Your passion for R&D and technology-driven solutions, coupled with strong communication skills, will be crucial in this role. Fluency in both English and/or Dutch is required to thrive in our dynamic, multicultural environment.

We offer a gross monthly salary between € 5.000,- and € 7.350,- (based on your knowledge and experience), 8% holiday pay, a 13th month bonus of 8.33% and a flex budget (5.58% + € 180).
