Internship | Towards cost-effective renewable DME production | North-Holland

About this position

This internship will be carried out in the frame of the energy transition towards renewable fuels and chemicals. During this internship you will work in a multidisciplinary team pursuing the transition towards a low-carbon economy which is pioneer in the development of low carbon technologies (i.e., SEWGS and SEDMES). Ready to be part of this exiting challenge? Apply to this position now!

What will be your role?

During this internship, the candidate will perform a technoeconomic assessment on the production of renewable DME. The utilization of CO2 and bio-based feedstock to produce renewable hydrocarbons through hydrogenation requires substantial amounts of hydrogen. As such, it is crucial to develop processes to increase one-step conversion and productivity of the desired products that are economically viable. In this regard, the Sorption Enhanced DME synthesis (SEDMES) is a promising technology for the efficient utilization of CO2 or syngas for the production of renewable DME.

You will join a team with more than 20 years’ experience on the development of intensified chemical processes from laboratory scale to TRL 7. Our technologies are tested under industrially relevant conditions in collaboration with key partners and techno-economic assessments are key to pursue the scaling-up of our technologies. If you have a passion for the development of low-carbon technologies, apply to this position to bring SEDMES to the next level with us!

What we expect from you

  • Background in Chemical Engineering
  • Knowledge of Aspen simulation
  • Experience on techno-economic assessments
  • Some coding background (i.e., MATLAB) will be valued
  • Proactive person

The selection process

After the first CV selection, the application process will be conducted by the concerning department. TNO will provide a suitable internship agreement. If you have any questions about this vacancy, you can contact the contact person mentioned below.

Important to be aware of before applying:

  • As stated in the internship policy, TNO doesn’t sign contracts from educational institutions. Before the start of the internship, the internship agreement from TNO needs to be signed, by the intern, TNO and the educational institution. This agreement is established in cooperation with Universiteiten van Nederland according to the UNL-template. If you are not a student at a Dutch college or university, or if you are a mbo-student, the TNO internship agreement will apply. In that case, a ‘proof of educational institution’ and a ‘proof of internship as part of course’ is needed instead of a signature from the educational institution.
  • Furthermore, you have to be registered at an educational institution to be eligible to do a paid internship at TNO. If you are not studying at a university you are only eligible for a work experience internship (unpaid, maximum of 8 weeks).
  • Interns at TNO must be in possession of a Dutch residential address at the start of the internship. It is not possible to work from abroad.
