RESEARCH AREA

In my research I focus on design, management and optimization of mobile communication networks with emphasis on performance, reliability/resilience and energy efficiency aspects. My ambition is to realize fully autonomous, AI-based management for next generation (5G and 6G) mobile networks with ultra-high data rates and almost zero latencies in order to enable large scale delivery of new, highly demanding real-time applications for e.g., autonomous driving, telerobotics, social VR and other VR applications involving tactile experience. My work in this area contributes directly to the PMC cluster “Fast and Open Infrastructures” within the TNO ICT Unit.

RECENT RESULTS

In the past few years various important contributions towards autonomous network management and control have been made. Together with my colleagues from TU Eindhoven I have developed new self-organizing, energy efficient resource management schemes for dense 5G mobile networks which have been extensively validated. At the service level, data-driven algorithms for efficient, QoS aware delivery of highly demanding media applications (like VR) over future 5G mobile networks we have designed exploiting novel approaches for cross utilization of network and application data. Furthermore, I have co-chaired the European research platform COST ACROSS on “autonomous control for a reliable Internet of services” stimulating cooperation among international research groups in the field.
