Scientist Digital Energy & Materials Transition | Rijswijk

Climate change, increasing resource scarcity, and environmental issues make the sustainability of our society one of the biggest challenges for the coming decades. The transformation of the energy supply and resource use must and can be accelerated. Add to that the transition to a world assisted by Artificial Intelligence. In this role, you will combine the two transitions.

As a research scientist digital energy & materials transition you will work on projects applying digitalization and machine learning technologies to challenges in the energy & materials transition. In your work you will develop mathematical and machine learning models, solve optimization problems, and contribute to the development of various software tools . The majority of your work will involve machine learning, where you will use your domain knowledge in physics and process engineering to create trusted and accurate data-driven solutions to different industrial applications in the energy and process industry. Your work will strongly link to the ambition of TNO to contribute to the energy and materials transition.

In your role as a research scientist you can identify yourself in the following profile:

• You have a Master (MSc) degree or PhD in preferably: Applied physics, Chemical engineering or Chemistry, Mechanical Engineering, or related fields.
• During your study or work you have gained experience with machine learning , and have applied it to both numeric and time-series data.
• Experience with development in Python and common machine learning frameworks such as Tensorflow/Keras and/or Pytorch is required. Familiarity with more advanced methods and frameworks related to graph neural networks, transformers, and/or physics-informed machine learning is an advantage.
• You enjoy and have the ability to troubleshoot complex problems in which you are capable to problem-solve on own initiative and together in a team. You have attention for details.
• You will work on a variety of projects in different fields, which contain multiple disciplines that require a broad knowledge base and good communication skills with other experts around you. You identify yourself as a team player and enjoy working in such multi-disciplinary teams.
