Software Engineer Air Quality and Climate

Want to make your mark on our time? Come work at TNO as Software Engineer in Petten!

About this position

You will join the Environmental Modelling, Sensing & Analysis (EMSA) department within the unit Energy and Material Transition. As a software engineer, you will support the researchers of EMSA. You will process measurement data, visualize it, and make it accessible to third parties.

What will be your role?

Researchers at EMSA measure and monitor concentrations of various gases and particles in the air at different locations and regions in the country, as well as through mobile measurement systems and local emission measurements. This includes nitrogen, greenhouse gases, and particulate matter. The data is validated and stored in databases, and conclusions are drawn from the results of model calculations. The results are made available to third parties via web applications.

Your task is to maintain the current IT systems and add new functionalities. Tasks include, for example:

  • Implementation of model calculations;
  • Developing web applications to present the data in a specific way;
  • Developing interfaces to control certain measuring instruments;
  • Designing and implementing secure APIs.
